Three pauses. Three questions.
A contemplative practice for using AI without losing yourself in the process.
Pause to Arrive: Is this tool what I actually need right now?
Pause to Feel: Do I feel open or closed in my body as I use this?
Pause to Connect: How will I bring what I’ve made—and myself—back to real life?
That's the practice.
The full experience lives at pausebetweenprompts.com.
If you spend any time with it, I’d love to hear what resonates. What lands in your body.
What you'd add. What feels off.
Up until now, this practice was mine. Now, it's ours.
How you engage with it will shape what it becomes.
How we got here:
Almost a year ago, I wrote Introducing Pause Between Prompts. In it, I offered eight pauses for an AI-powered world and a quiet insistence that we don’t have to move at the pace of the machines.
Then I lived it.
I learned what happened when I paused. I took many breaks from using AI and writing publicly altogether. I let what wanted to be said reveal itself at its own pace instead of forcing it into shape.
Eight pauses became three. Ideas became a concrete practice you can step into.
The site is there to support you in it.
I’m really glad you’re here for this.
